Shanghai coronavirus vlog: Strict new residential rules ramp up anti-virus measures

Strict new rules relating to Shanghai's 13,000 residential communities were released by the city's civil affairs authorities on Friday in the ongoing battle against novel coronavirus.?

They include ramping up registration of visitors, staff on all entries, mandatory temperature checks and home quarantine for those who come back to Shanghai from "key affected areas" and show no symptoms of COVID-19.

Those found to exhibit a high temperature or any other symptoms will be reported and sent for the required medical checkup or treatment.

The specific mention of "key affected areas" may allay the fears of some foreigners who were worried about returning to Shanghai for work because of the threat of 14 days' home quarantine.?

Today I took a little walk around my neighborhood to see what preparations residential communities were making to accommodate the new rules.

The gate to a residential community in Jing'an District is plastered with makeshift signs detailing strict new rules in the ongoing battle against COVID-19. "Regardless of residence status, everyone returning to Shanghai needs to register," and "Whether you're visiting your relatives or a friend, the same goes: please turn back" are two examples.?
