I've taken up biking around Shanghai's empty streets — long, quiet stretches of gray road nearly completely void of the usual sounds and seemingly lifeless because of this hideous coronavirus outbreak. But pretty soon I realized: it's not as isolated as I first thought. There is something happening underneath the surface, something we are all a part of.
